To enter the competition, contestants simply need to send in details of their experiences of going wild outdoors at one of the National Trust's summer events.

Competition judges are looking for great photos taken in nature, poetical musings on bugs and beasties, stories about wildlife adventures, doodles inspired by the great outdoors. In short, anything that shows the entrant is a wild child. Entries received will be put into an online gallery which will allow visitors to vote on popular entries.

Entries can be e-mailed or sent in the post to the National Trust. Anything mailed will be scanned and, like e-mail entries, uploaded to the gallery after moderation.

Winners will go on a fantastic day out with one of the National Trust nature conservation experts, getting up close and personal with creepy crawlies, shy creatures and wild landscapes. Winners can bring a friend or parent/guardian with them to join in the behind-the-scenes adventure. The competition winner will have a choice of National Trust sites to explore, including sandy beaches, open moorland and garden visits.

There are thousands of Wild Child events across England, Wales and Northern Ireland this summer, from safaris and bug hunts to pond dipping and bat watching, there’s plenty of ways to get close to nature.

The competition closes 1 November 2010 at midnight and winners will be notified by post within 28 days of this date. Entrants under 16 years of age should ask a parent or guardian before giving contact details.

Official records show that British Airways was the most punctual major carrier at Gatwick last month, with 87 per cent of short haul and domestic flights departing on time and 86 per cent of international flights on time.

The news comes on top of the airline's best ever performance in March when Gatwick achieved the best monthly punctuality figures British Airways has ever recorded.

Alan Peever, British Airways general manager at Gatwick, said: "Once again British Airways colleagues at Gatwick are delivering excellent service for our customers by helping us soar ahead of the competition when it comes to flights departing on time. We recognise that time is important and that regular punctuality is a key factor when customers chose which airline to fly with. I would like to thank everyone for a real team effort."

British Airways’ long haul programme at Gatwick has grown this summer, with 52 departures a week to 13 destinations. The most popular destinations for families are Orlando and Tampa for holidays in Florida. Other hotspots include flights to Male for romantic holidays in the Maldives, Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic and seven other Caribbean destinations.

British Airways also operates a substantial short haul programme making the airline a favourite for city breaks in Europe offering Euro Traveller, the British Airways Economy cabin for short haul flights and Club Europe, British Airway's Business Class cabin. Popular choices from Gatwick include flights to Amsterdam and Rome. For the summer months, holidays in Paphos are also a great option.

The Stena Express vessel, which caters for up to 520 passengers and up to 120 cars, has returned to service on the Fishguard to Rosslare Irish Sea route. Teachers at the Colwyn Bay school received lessons in everything from magic to Michael Jackson impersonations before showing off their newfound skills on stage.

The Teacher’s Got Talent initiative was devised by international development charity VSO, working in partnership with education recruitment specialist Randstad Education, as part of their joint Global Skillshare initiative, which was launched to allow teachers to share skills, build capabilities and promote international understanding and action.

Pupils turned their teachers into class acts with new skills such as Indian dancing, beat-boxing, playing the French horn, karate and gymnastics. But it was deputy headteacher Martin Jackman who took the top prize when he made his debut as a ballet dancer.

He said: “I had a great time learning ballet. My teachers, the Year 5 girls, were very patient and understanding. It gave me a new perspective on teaching – and a cricked back!”

Year 4 teacher Nicola Cureton was also pleased with her first performance as a magician. “I really enjoyed taking part in Teacher’s Got Talent and I think I could now give Paul Daniels a run for his money! The children were so keen to teach me and seemed really proud after my, admittedly very nervy, performance. I would definitely do something like this again – the teachers get to experience how the children feel when asked to perform in front of the whole school and the children get to see their teachers on a whole new level.”

Another newcomer to the world of showbusiness was Sandra Cunningham-Williams, who was trained by her Year 6 pupils to mimic Michael Jackson. “It was a real eye-opener for me to sing and dance like Michael Jackson. My 11-year-old ‘teacher’ was very patient with me. It made me appreciate how hard it is to learn skills, but it was worth being taken out of my comfort zone for the atmosphere and excitement of the event.”

VSO, who tackles global poverty by sending volunteers to share their professional expertise in some of the world’s poorest communities, introduced Teachers Got Talent to a number of UK schools.

The contest was accompanied by an assembly plan and follow-up activities with links to citizenship, PSHE, geography and key skills curriculum areas.

Participating schools are eligible for two prizes provided by publisher HarperCollins and Randstad Education.

The Global Fundraising Award will reward the best fundraising effort by a school with resources to stock up their library, including fiction, educational books and computer learning resources from HarperCollins Publishers. The Global Champion Award will go to the school where students went the extra mile to engage with global issues. The winners will receive either an exclusive creative drama workshop with the Chickenshed Theatre Company, courtesy of Randstad Education, or a school visit from a HarperCollins children’s author, which will include a talk and a Q&A session. Winners will be announced in October.
